Renovation Plans for St. Elizabeths West Revealed
The 264k SF Center building on the St. Elizabeths West campus is set to undergo a total renovation to modernize the future home of the Department of Homeland Security HQ and Secretary’s office. The GSA, working with Grunley Construction and Shalom Baranes Associates, has proposed expensive and intense upgrades to support a modern workplace environment. The Center building, stretching nearly 1,000 feet end-to-end, was constructed between 1853 and 1884 and has substantially deteriorated. Funding of $379.7M for DHS consolidation on the St. Elizabeth’s West campus is included in President Obama’s fiscal 2016 budget. [WBJ]
