Big Moves On The Horizon In Ballston
There’s change in the air in Ballston, where a slew of high-profile developments are set to completely remake the retail and residential scenes when they start delivering in the months and years ahead.
Tina Leone (above), CEO of the Ballston Business Improvement District, says she’s particularly excited about Ballston Quarter, which is set to deliver in 2018.
Ballston Quarter “will not only transform Wilson Boulevard, but also people’s lives,” Tina says. “That’s the main reason we’re attending [ICSC Recon] this year—to help get some great retailers for Ballston.”
A newly formed JV between Forest City Realty Trust and the Queensland Investment Corporation Global Real Estate Trust, Ballston Quarter is a massive overhaul of the existing Ballston Common Mall.
The plan is to turn the aging mall into an open air town center, with residential and office on top.
Tina says a growing trend of properties being converted from office to residential in the area—which she says could bring roughly 1,600 units online the next few years—should also help to revitalize the neighborhood, along with splashier projects like Ballston Quarter and The Shooshan Co's 4040 Wilson Blvd project.
