Boston's Tatte Bakery Coming To Carr's Big Bethesda Project
A Boston-based bakery is opening its second D.C.-area location in a major Bethesda mixed-use development.
Carr Properties announced Wednesday it signed Tatte Bakery & Café to open a 4K SF space in the ground floor of its 7272 Wisconsin Ave. NW development.
Founded in 2008 by Israeli pastry chef Tzurit Or, Tatte Bakery & Café now has 15 locations in the Boston area. In 2016, Panera Bread acquired a majority stake in the company, though it remains independently operated. The company in October announced it would open its first D.C. location at 1200 New Hampshire Ave. NW, its first outside the Boston market.
"I wanted to bring Tatte to more markets and fell in love with D.C.," Or said in a release. "Tatte is a neighborhood brand, and I wanted to be part of the beautiful neighborhoods and communities."
The bakery is the first retailer to sign on at Carr's development. The 800K SF development will feature a 23-story office tower branded as The Wilson and a 460-unit multifamily building branded as The Elm. Carr has announced two office tenants at the building, television station WTTG Fox 5 and asset manager ProShares.
The development is planned to include 12K SF of ground-floor retail. The bakery will front Wisconsin Avenue and open into the development's 12,500 SF shared outdoor plaza. The plaza will feature an entrance to the Purple Line, the under-construction, 16-mile light rail that will have its western terminus underneath Carr's development.
