DC Wants More Retail
Despite hotspots like Uline Arena (pictured), CityCenterDC and Tanger Outlets, retail has a long way to go in many neighborhoods. That's why Washington DC Economic Partnership CEO Keith Sellars is focusing on emerging neighborhoods at this year's ICSC. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser, four members of her staff, and six of the 13 members of the DC Council were there, the Washington Post reports. They'll focus on promoting big planned or proposed projects to show trends in the marketplace. From there, they are hoping some of the big-name retailers will be open to expanding into those developing neighborhoods. When Prince George's County Executive Rushern L. Baker III came into office, Harris Teeter representatives scoffed at the idea of coming to DC. Now they have one store open in the county and another on its way. He's hoping that's just the beginning. [WaPo]
