Popular Convenience Store Chain Wawa To Open First DC Store
DC residents will no longer have to take a trip to the suburbs to get their Wawa fix.
The popular convenience store chain known for its hoagies has plans to open its first location in the District, although the specific location is still unknown, PoPville first reported.
It also remains unclear when DC's first Wawa would open or how many locations in the city the chain is planning. Wawa CEO Chris Gheysens may answer those questions when he unveils his plans for the chain's DC entrance at a Newseum event on June 13.
"Wawa is creating a store uniquely designed for the DC customer," a flyer advertising the event said. "Our restaurant-style location will feature the best of Wawa's products and innovations in a casual, inviting setting."
The chain already has several suburban DC locations in Prince George's County and Prince William County, but fans of the chain have long called for it to enter into the District proper.
UPDATE May 18, 4:16 p.m.: DCist reports that Wawa plans to open 11 DC stores, with its first opening at 1111 19th St. NW.
