Maryland approved more than 100 medical marijuana dispensaries late last year, and now two are preparing to open in Montgomery County

RISE Silver Spring, a dispensary at 7900 Fenton St. held an open house Tuesday and could start selling product in the coming week, Bethesda Beat reports

Another dispensary, RISE Bethesda, plans to open over the next couple of weeks in the Wildwood Medical Center. The shop will occupy 1,500 SF at 10401 Old Georgetown Road.

The two dispensaries are separately owned, but are operating under the same brand. The stores will sell several types of medical cannabis products, including flowers, topical creams, transdermal patches, oils, concentrates and pills.

Maryland voted in 2014 to legalize cannabis for medicinal use, but delays have slowed the process of opening dispensaries. The state granted authorizations in December for 102 businesses to sell medical marijuana, including at least 18 in Montgomery County and 10 in Prince George's County. Construction began in February on a 72K SF warehouse facility in Capitol Heights for growing medical cannabis.
