Former Silver Spring Library Site Could Become Senior Housing

Placeholder

The former site of the Silver Spring library could soon become a senior housing project with a child care center.

Montgomery County on Monday put out an RFP for the site at 8901 Colesville Road, Bethesda Magazine reports.

The 2.3-acre site, above, sits adjacent to Ross Cos' 10-story Colesville Towers on one side and Ellsworth Urban Park on the other.

The RFP specifies that the county wants a senior housing development, with 30% of the units made affordable, a child care facility and some green space to mesh with the neighboring park. It does not specify the number of units that can be built or the maximum height of the building.

The site is a half-mile from the Georgia Avenue intersection, where Starr Capital is planning to build a 173-room hotel. [BETH]
