3 Companies Loving Health IT

Don't tell Goliath, but it's not always largebusinesses that may be the big winners in health IT this year. Here are three:

1) Creative Computing Solutions

CCSi-MaggieBauerCCSi recently hired Maggie Bauer to expand its already thriving health informatics practice. The Rockville, Md.-based company has been building a health IT team over the last few months to pursue new business with agencies like NIH, CMS, and CDC. The company has been offering health services and health IT solutions for several years to VA and DOD with plans to grow one of the few areas where government is expanding. Deltek projects the market to hit $19.3 billion by 2017. CCSi's work ranges from helping with research analysis to more tech-focused program management work.

2) Ambit Group

Ambit Group CEO Kim Hayes officially launched Ambit Health earlier this month to expand beyond the smaller health projects it's been winning for the last two years. The Reston, Va., company will help with standard health IT needs like program and project management and integration to EHR. It also partnered with Next Health, which makes patient transfer and mobility systems. Ambit will help bring the patient movement product to the federal market.

3) MAXIMUS Federal Services

MAXIMUS was recently awarded contracts by Minnesota and Connecticut to set up and operate health insurance exchanges required by Obamacare. (States have the option of using federal exchanges if they don't want to set up their own.) Federal services president Tom Romeo (third from left) says the health reform outlook is equally good for federal business as the company waits to hear on bids submitted for several large federal opportunities. The Reston, Va., company has been digitizing paper forms and automating work flow for Medicare appeals for 13 years.
