Apps for Apes

Our week isn't complete without a cute animal story from the National Zoo. Ape keepers there have introduced tablets to six of the zoo's orangutans through a program called Apps for Apes. Great ape keeper Becky Malinksy (not pictured) says the program fits perfectly in the new era of zoo keeping and a desire to change the day-to-day lives of animals. Boonie has used the tablet for playing drums, Kyle prefers the piano, and Iris uses the tablet to listen to koi pond sounds while watching animated fish splash around. Shhh, don't tell our kids, who don't have tablets, about this.
So should animals be introduced to technology? Send thoughts to Bisnow's Tania Anderson.
