Birth of Mobile Content Sharing

Daniel Odio never really wanted to leave the DC tech scene for the West Coast. But it had to be done a few years ago to grow his product business in a more mature ecosystem. It turned out to be a good decision, as his company, Socialize, was just acquired by ShareThis. The combined forces can now tackle content sharing online and through mobile devices.Palo Alto-based ShareThis has a large market share of online content sharing but was always missing the mobile piece that Socialize brings, Daniel tells us. (Now if you see someone laughing at their phone on the subway, ask them to share it with you.)

Socialize started as PointAbout, an app development shop for the Washington Post, Disney, and Newsweek.Daniel came back to his hometown for a happy hour celebrating the acquisition. Some PointAbout alum toasted the deal, like Scott Suhy (now GreenLine Systems CEO) and Pete Johnson(now Apollo Matrix CEO). Daniel says ShareThis' content sharing shows advertisers and publishers various trends in what kind of content is shared online. The Socialize piece will now analyze those same content sharing trends through mobile devices. (Makes sense since we saw a newborn baby with its own iPhone the other day.)
