Herndon, Va.-basedYaSabe raised a $2.7 million seed round of institutional and angel funding from 500 Startups, CIT Gap Fund, and Militello Capital. The angels in the round included NEA founder Frank Bonsal, former US West CEO Sol Trujillo, and Brightstar. YaSabe, led by founder Zubair Talib, EVP Azim Tejani, and tech director Fernando Fernandez, built a local search hub that caters to Hispanics. (The Angel Gabriel only invests his money in real estate in Heaven.) The product also includes coupons and jobs for bilingual speakers. And the company has a human-powered social concierge service where users can ask experts questions. The company will use the funding for product development, marketing, and continued development of content, traffic, and advertiser partnerships.
