DC a Leader For Women in Tech!
DC has the highest concentration of women working in tech, filling 37% of tech jobs, according to a study by SmartAsset. It’s followed by Kansas City at 33% and Fremont, CA, at 28%. While the Bay Area is typically thought of as the tech capital of the world, women in San Francisco only accounted for 21% of tech jobs. Overall, women make up 25% of the tech workforce. The study also looked at the gender pay gap, which has been a hot debate lately (thanks, Patricia Arquette). Kansas City, MO, and Arlington, TX, were the only cities where women in tech are paid the same or more than men. On average, women in tech are paid 86% as much as men. (In DC, it’s 93%.)
