DC Area Down $85M in VC, But Year Looks Bright
DC area companies raised $245M in Q2, down slightly from the $330M raised in Q1, according to the PwC/NVCA MoneyTree Report based on data from Thomson Reuters. But the year's on pace to raise slightly more than the $1.1B raised in 2014. Nationally, companies raised $17.5B in 1,189 deals, making it the sixth consecutive quarter of over $10B of VC invested. NVCA CEO Bobby Franklin (above) says the uptick can be partially attributed to nontraditional investors joining funding rounds. (Until told otherwise, we'll assume nontraditional means paid for in $2 bills.) But venture continues to lead investments in new technologies and companies.
