Fairfax County Gets Lightning Fast Internet
Fairfax County residents are about to get the Ferrari of Internet service. Cox Communications announced this week it’s investing $81M to provide “gigabit” Internet service to residential customers by the end of December. The “G1GABLAST” service speed will be up to 1,000 megabits per second, which is 20 times faster than existing service. Fairfax County will be one of a handful of communities in the country that have gigabit service for residents, according to Cox SVP JD Myers II. Fairfax County Economic Development Authority president Jerry Gordon (above) says this reflects the county’s reputation as a tech leader and will make recruiting more companies that much easier.
