DC Region's Latest Funding Rounds

More money poured into DC's tech economy this week, with the $8M Series A round raised by Contactually. The DC company’s relationship management platform helps service professionals identify and organize sales leads. Unlike other CRM software, it aggregates data from email, calendars, spreadsheets and other sources. Founder Zvi Band, who launched Contactually in 2011 and raised $4M in a previous round, says the money will be used to ramp up sales, expand marketing and engineering teams, and build out the relationship management and engagement platform and expand on mobile platforms. Zvi says despite the general thought that local capital is hard to raise, Contactually managed to woo Vienna-based Grotech Ventures, which recently raised a large new fund. General partner Don Rainey is also now on Contactually’s board.

Another raise this week came out of Baltimore-based Tenable Network Security, which announced a $250M Series B round led by Insight Venture Partners and Accel. CEO Ron Gula says the investment, which brings the company’s total funding to $300M, marks one of the largest fundraising rounds for a private security company. The company’s continuous network monitoring product has over 1 million users and nearly 20,000 customers worldwide, including Deloitte, Visa and BMW.
