Oculis Acquired
The company that helped us secretly watch March Madness during work was just acquired by Optio Labs, a mobile security company. Baltimore-based Oculis Labs founder and CEO Bill Anderson (pictured), known for his cryptography expertise, will join Optio as its chief product officer. Oculis products protect data displayed on computer and mobile device screens from eavesdroppers. Screens go blank when a user walks away, blur when someone tries to read over their shoulder, and it unlocks the computer using facial recognition. Oculis' products will allow Optio, which has offices in Baltimore, DC and Nashville, to provide data security solutions to corporations, government institutions and wireless carriers. Optio, a subsidiary of Allied Minds, recently hired Gregg Smith, who ran KoolSpan and Acuity Mobile, as its CEO. The company also raised $10M in a Series A round a year ago.
