Azur's Grand Opening Twist
We stopped by the grand opening celebration for Azur, Chef Frederik de Pue's new restaurant in the former Cafe Atlantico space in Penn Quarter. We were surprised to find the third floor walls hung with plastic tarps, and the space cleared of furniture; in its place, a stage was constructed for a live art performance by Chef's close friend, "speed-painter" Franck Bouroullec. In mere minutes, Franck created a larger-than-life portrait of Chef before our eyes--a gift for his old friend. He went on to create a slightly smaller swordfish painting, which will hang over Azur's raw bar. Azur opened for dinner service Thursday.
