David Martin, Arent Fox
In addition to handling workouts for underwater real estate, one of David's specialties is actual real estate under water. As president and GC of New World Network in the early 2000s, he helped build a submarine fiber-optic cable system in the Gulf of Mexico that replaced the surrounding 16 countries' satellite connections. Before that, he was lead attorney on the first private transatlantic fiber-optic cable system after telecom deregulation. With construction, financing and JV components, "It was essentially a real estate construction project, stretched over thousands of miles and miles under the water." He also spent time as SVP-GC of commercial lending for CapitalSource, before joining Patton Boggs, then Arent Fox. He reps developers, investors and lenders in a range of commercial matters. Clients include JBG, SunTrust, Federal Capital Partners and CapitalSource, for whom he's now working on the recapitalization of a 12-hotel portfolio in the Pacific Northwest. Outside the office, he can be found with his wife and four children at the family's cottage near St. Michaels, or boating on the Bay.
