Debo Adegbile Denied Confirmation
Debo Adegbile was nominated by Obama to head the DOJ's civil rights division, a nomination the Senate blocked with a 47-52 vote this week. We took this photo of Debo at a past NAACP LDF event with Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights CEO Wade Henderson, who says that the vote "shows a hypocritical double standard." Both Debo--who is facing controversy over giving legal representation to a man who killed a police officer--and Chief Justice John Roberts "represented an unpopular client on death row." Roberts is on the Supreme Court while the focus on Debo continues to be about a client he's represented. "Every person deserves legal representation," Wade says, and the legal system can't function if lawyers refuse to represent unpopular clients.
