Lawyer Power Couples
This Valentine's Day, here are some of DC's top legal couples and how they met.
David DeBruin and Elizabeth Taylor
Jenner & Block DC managing partner David DeBruin and his wife, DOJ principal deputy to the associate attorney general Elizabeth Taylor, met in '84 while attorneys at the DC Public Defender Service. They traveled to Nepal the next year, where David had planned to propose at the top of the Thorong La mountain pass, at about 18,000 feet. He says that finding the Sherpas and porters waiting at the pass for a group photo—in addition to the lack of oxygen—meant that he waited to propose until they returned home. Almost 30 years later, David and Elizabeth keep up their love of traveling; this picture is from Grand Teton National Park.
