Yesterday, Akin Gump founder Robert Strauss passed away in DC at 95. The Texas lawyer and influential political insider—above in an AP photo from his time as President Carter's national campaign chairman—held positions as Democratic national chairman, special trade representative, and ambassador to the Soviet Union. With trademark gregariousness and quick wit, he was known for helping revive the Democratic party using his skill in connecting with people on both sides of the aisle.
