Tom Kaufman, Goulston & Storrs
Tom is the president of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers, an invite-only organization whose select members go through in-depth vetting. He just returned from the annual meeting in Boston, where he debuted ACREL Shares, an online communications program that makes research and program materials accessible to fellows. Tom's practice focuses on real estate finance, private equity and JVs, ranging from workouts of three Trump Casinos in Atlantic City earlier in his career, to the recent financing of senior living facilities for Brevet Capital. He tells us nearly every DC block has at least one project he's worked on. After growing up in Buffalo, Tom attended Georgetown Law, staying in the District (with a hiatus for a Sixth Circuit clerkship and a Wharton MBA). After his clerkship he joined Melrod, Redman, & Gartlan, Willkie Farr for 13 years, Hunton & Williams for 17, and Goulston in 2012. He's often skiing, hiking or biking--including this year's six-day Bike Virginia tour and last year's 428-mile ride from Buffalo down the Erie Canal.
