Top Legal Pets II
This chilly Tuesday, we're bringing you something that's sure to warm your spirits: another helping of lawyers' best friends.
These adorable yellow Lab puppies are just four of a larger litter. They belong to two lawyers who moonlight as Labrador Retriever breeders: Jones Day partner Tom Jerman and Washington Council of Lawyers board member Evelyn Becker. Evelyn's a former O'Melveny partner and Children's Law Center pro bono director. At CLC she worked with Joan Wood, who snapped this photo a few days ago.
Maggie the Basenji-Jack Russell terrier mix is the top dog, says Patton Boggs' Brandon Roman. She's a great snuggler and would make an excellent private investigator, Brandon tells us, judging by how easily she manages to find his socks no matter where he hides them. After a hard day of work and play, Maggie snores louder than do most humans.
Ifrah Law partner Michelle Cohen and KPMG director of political compliance Rob Cohen are the proud parents of this 9-year-old basset hound, Bandit Cohen. Michelle tells us that while Bandit looks innocent here, he lives up to his name. He'd make a tenacious litigator--in that he gets into everything. That includes backpacks and briefcases, loaves of bread on the counter, and even a bowl of soup Michelle made for her son. While the soup was cooling, Bandit slurped up the entire bowl.
Here's Sterne Kessler director Rob Sokohl feeding his brood some Thanksgiving dinner after a long day of hunting. The golden retrievers are formally known as Trifecta's Will He Bet On Me, Roux's Steamin' Red Hot Blues, and You Have Got to Be Kidding--or more casually, Toby, Jazz, and Joker. The German short-hair pointer is Axel. Rob's wife trains and handles these master hunters.
Junior is a miniature pinscher who may be 10 years old but is still always up for an adventure. He recently discovered a love for paddleboarding while on vacation in Amagansett, NY, says Amelia Elze, his owner and the founder of commercial real estate firm Elze Law. The thrill-seeking min pin's other loves include riding in convertibles and chasing deer.
Sterne Kessler director and trademark and anti-counterfeiting ace Monica Riva Talley cuddles up to her guinea pigs Laurel and Hardy. They're rescues that Monica and her husband Tod adopted a couple years ago for their children, 8-year-old Joe and 5-year-old Anna. The "pigs" haven't warded off any intruders, but seem to enjoy being held--and as an additional bonus, generate copious amounts of organic fertilizer for the family garden.
Buddy is a 9-year-old rescue dog and part Beagle mix. His owner, Dentons manager of business services Joyce Miller, says he has the best personality and is very expressive. (Based on his smile, we'd definitely agree.) He enjoys riding in the car, going for walks, and--though you wouldn't guess from his smile--attacking the mailman.
