Indiana Signing Away Civil Rights?

Placeholder

In another sign of the ongoing "turbulence" between religious convictions and nondiscrimination that Yale Law Dean Robert Post has referred to, on Thursday, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence signed the Religious Freedom Restoration ActThe passage of RFRA allows business owners in the state to refuse to take part in other actions that may clash with their religious beliefsfor instance, they may deny services to same-sex couples, reports NPR. Despite outcry by numerous organizations and lawmakers, Gov. Pence maintains that the legislation is not discriminatory, but is about religious liberty. Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer vetoed a similar bill last year. [NPR]
