NLRB Not Ready for College Athletes to Unionize
The next local union meeting won't be on the 50-yard line. College football players are not entitled to unionize just yet, says the NLRB HQ. The ruling came in response to an appeal to a March ruling by a regional NLRB official, who said that scholarship football players are employees and therefore can form unions. The full board was not ready to support such a dramatic decision but left the issue "open for future discussion." Former Northwestern University quarterback Kain Colter led the effort to create the country's first union of college athletes. [WSJ]
