Squire Patton Boggs Adviser Tapped for House Speaker's Chief of Staff
Thursday morning, Rep. Paul Ryan was elected the 54th Speaker of the House. Squire Patton Boggs senior policy adviser David Hoppe was tapped by Ryan to be his chief of staff, the Washington Post first reported. Dave's previously been CoS for Republican Whip Sen. Jon Kyl, then-Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott and Rep. Jack Kemp. He's a senior adviser to the Bipartisan Policy Center, which was founded by Senate Majority Leaders Howard Baker, Tom Daschle, Bob Dole and George Mitchell. In a statement, Squire Patton Boggs public policy practice co-chairs Sens. John Breaux and Trent Lott said they admire Dave for "answering the call of his country." They added, "You will never encounter an individual who cares more about our nation than Dave Hoppe does." [WaPo]
