Ballard Spahr Bikes For Charity
Ballard Spahr lawyers are going the distance—on bikes. Several of them rode 100 miles this weekend as part of the 2016 MS Society Chesapeake Challenge. Team Ballard's fundraising put it in the top five earners this year with more than $20k raised for MS research. Snapped here with Mar-Del Watermelon Queen Amy Wigglesworth is Craig Stevens (spouse of Philadelphia Ballard Spahr partner Lynn Rzonca), DC partner Roger Winston, and longtime MS ride and Ballard Spahr friend Kevin Hearle. Ballard Spahr commercial real estate partner Des Connall, whom Roger calls "our perpetual team captain," has organized Team Ballard's participation for the past 15 years.
Another charity ride is coming up in three weeks: the inaugural bike from Susan G. Komen's Maryland chapter. Des has agreed to champion the Promise Ride this year, to to honor his wife, who courageously fought, but ultimately lost, her battle with cancer two years ago.
Roger tells us that anyone is welcome to join Team Ballard for the Promise Ride, which has 34 and 65 mile options. (He'll be doing the 65 mile ride, and bolsters his training by commuting by bike to work each day.) "It seems nearly all of us have been affected in some way by breast cancer," he says. "In 2002, my partner, Jon Laria's mother died of metastatic breast cancer at the age of 62. His wife, Trudy, is a breast cancer survivor." You can also click here to support the Ballard team.
