The DC Affordable Law Firm Off To A Rewarding Start
The DC Affordable Law Firm, a nonprofit "low bono" firm created this year, is already winning awards. It snagged the inaugural Suzanne Richards Award from the Foundation of the Bar Association of DC at the FBADC's annual black-tie banquet. The award is named for the late first female president of the BADC.
DCALF provides affordable legal services to small businesses, nonprofits and DC residents who don't qualify for free legal aid (and can't take on big law fees). It's housed in Arent Fox's DC office and staffed by Georgetown Law grads, who receive training from DLA Piper attorneys. Over the next three years, Georgetown Law says, the three organizations will provide $1M in financial and pro bono support.
