What Do Associates Really Want?
Cushman & Wakefield legal sector advisory group head Sherry Cushman tells us that for a national Cushman survey, they went to 200 firms and asked associates what's most important to them. Making partner and compensation was low on the list. Technology, collaboration, mentorship and work-life balance were the top four. We heard from her at Bisnow's latest Managing Partner Roundtable. (See Part 1 and Part 2.)
Associates don't want to just do transactional work and hand back the assignment, says Wiley Rein managing partner Peter Shields. They want to learn about the business of law because they know how important it is. Wiley has a professional development program that pairs associates with a partner, giving them guidance about their development at each stage as an associate.
