Cherry Blossom Ceremony!
We went to the Cherry Blossom Festival Opening Ceremony at the Warner Theatre to celebrate the gift of cherry trees from Japan 102 years ago. We snapped Anna Saeki, whose Japanese-Latin fusion style has made her one of the world’s top tango singers.
Justin Pineda Fronda sang the National Anthem and Genevieve Maki Meier sang the Japanese National Anthem.
Japanese Ambassador Kenichiro Sasae officially opened the festival with a Haiku about how much traffic the blossoms bring to DC, which garnered many laughs.
There were many performances, including Howard University's Step Team, which danced to a Wizard of Oz theme.
Heather Mahoney, Travis Holler, and Casie Kiel contributed to this issue.
