Freedom Fighters & Friends!
In celebration of Black History Month we also went to the Freedom Fighters & Friends hosted by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities at Arena Stage, honoring the legacies of civil rights leaders Bayard Rustin and James Baldwin in an outstanding performance of song, dance, and poetry. We snapped DCCAH acting chair Lavinia Wohlfarth and exec director Lionell Thomas.
The sold-out show gathered 350 for a moving journey through civil rights, pacifism, and gay rights. Here, DeVos Institute of Arts' Shay Stevens, Ward 8 Arts Council’s Terry Scott, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force’s Darlene Nipper, and Humanities Council’s Michael Chambers.
Washington National Opera’s Soloman Howard sang Impossible Dream. He’s surrounded by SynchroniCity’s Elise Cuffy, Jamal Brown, and Leslie Delaine who sang Go Down Moses.
A post-show reception by Destination DC featured sweets such as macaroons, fruit tarts, and petit fours. Here, Huggins Communications’ Hosiah Huggins, Ludlow McKay, CCC Links’ Edna Moffitt, The Hill’s Rachel Huggins, and Zanzibar Management Group’s Michel Daley.
