Freezin for a Reason!
270 brave souls took the plunge in the icy waters Saturday at the 7th annual Freezin for a Reason Virginia Polar Dip in Reston’s Lake Anne. With water temps in the 30's, it was a perfect day for polar bears to jump into a lake for a good cause. Donors raised $90,000 to send 44 local families to Camp Sunshine, a Maine retreat for kids with life-threatening illnesses and their families.
The Virginia Polar Dip was started by the Toth family in 2008 after a long history with Camp Sunshine, where their daughter Jennifer first went in 1996 at age three when she had cancer. After Jennifer, who’s now a healthy college sophomore, participated in a Camp Sunshine Polar Dip in NJ, her parents, Bill and Gail Toth, decided to bring it to VA to help local families.
