Making it in DC!
Last night we went to Hogo for 826DC Presents How to Make it in This Town with two best-selling authors: CNN’s Jake Tapper, who wrote The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor, and the New York Times’ Mark Leibovich, who wrote This Town.
The two veteran reporters swapped stories about how they got to know other. During their early DC days, Jake Tapper wanted the Washington Post Style section job that Mark Leibovich ended up getting. Although he wasn’t happy at the time, through the years the two became friends. Here, Avenue Solutions’ Amy Tejral, Dish Network’s Jessica Straus, and FF & Co.’s Ashley Flanagan.
All proceeds from the event support 826DC, a nonprofit dedicated to working with students 6-18 to develop their writing skills and to working with teachers to inspire their students to write. Here, SKDKnickerbocker’s Nell Callahan, her husband 826DC executive director Joe Callahan, and Rosemont Seneca Partners’ Eric Schwerin.
Fun tidbits: Mark Leibovich said his greatest tool is the tape recorder and that he can count on one hand the people who will never, ever speak to him again. Jake Tapper said he had a crush on Leibovich's sister. Here, Atlantic Media’s Emily Lenzner and Ross Yoon Agency’s Howard Yoon.
