Oysterfest!
We went to the first annual DC Oysterfest at Dock Five outside Union Market and watched master shuckers compete for the fastest shucker, while guests took part in an oyster eating contest. Rappahannock Oyster Bar shucked thousands of Old Salts and Rappahannock oysters from the Chesapeake Bay. We snapped its crew: Gardner Douglas, Chad England, and George Hastings.
Local breweries, vineyards, and distilleries poured drinks created for Oysterfest. DC Brau worked with Baxter Brewery to create a Black IPA brewed with Old Salt oysters. Here, DC Brau co-founder and head brewer Jeff Hancock is flanked by colleagues Jake Agger, Mari Rodela, Jen Jackson, and Tim Jackson.
Red Apron and DCity Smokehouse brought barbeque hot dogs and ribs. Here, Salt & Sundry’s Sally Irmer, Streetsense’s John DeNapoli, who did the graphics for the event, Rappahannock GM JP Sabatier, Gensler’s Brandon Mermelstein, EMC’s Jon Boc, thelistareyouonit’s Maria DeNapoli, and Verisign’s Neeraj Agrawal.
Mountain Minstrelsy rocked out for the crowd. Here, Christine Smith, Dave Bielanko, and child-prodigy Gus Tritch.
