WPAS, F4P & Matthew Morrison!
Saturday night we went to the DC Ritz Carlton for the WPAS gala with Glee star Matthew Morrison.
We snapped him singing On the Street Where You Live, which he joked he has sung at every audition. He also sang old Broadway hits like Singing in the Rain, Luck Be A Lady, Younger Than Springtime fromSouth Pacific, which he performed on Broadway, and a medley from West Side Story, which he said was his favorite.
Chris Matthews grumbled he didnt get the black tie memo. Hes with his wife, Marriott EVP for communications (and former WJLA anchor) Kathleen Matthews who emceed; the galas diplomatic chairs, Irish Ambassador to the US Michael Collins and wife Marie; and gala chairs, Marriott CEO Arne Sorenson and his wife Ruth.
BET CEO Debra Lee is bookended by her EVP Paxton Baker and Booz Allen SVP Reggie Van Lee, who chairs WPAS. The BET folks are happy: their Real Husbands of Hollywood is one of cable's top-rated shows.
At the VIP reception in The Art Gallery, we snapped Trent Lott and his wife Tricia with WPAS prez emeritus Doug Wheeler and his wife Catherine. Proceeds support the Washington Performing Arts Society, which brings incredible programming to the Kennedy Center and other venues and supports arts education for DC-area kids.
The evening was a big hitfrom the $45,000 someone paid in the live auction for a private opera performance to the scores of folks who poured onto the dance floor while Matthew was singing. Here, attorney Jacqui Michel and Insite Wireless CEO David Weisman with Donna and Martin Ritter.
