Brewer's Ball!
We went to the 10th annual Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Brewer's Ball at the National Building Museum. Local chefs and brewers served tastes, brews, and hope for finding a cure for cystic fibrosis.
We snapped CFF Executive Director Denise Brownlee, Matchbox Food Group co-owner Drew Kim, and CFF advocate George Adams. George's young daughter Maelynn battles CF. The program highlighted the mission of CFF to cure the life-threatening genetic disease affecting the lungs and digestive system of 100,000 Americans.
Hanks Oyster Bar, Ris and Meridian Pint were among chef-manned tasting stations. Here, Rossen Landscape's Jason Navon and Fairfax County's Adrienne Barnes indulge on pecan panna cotta prepared by Top Chef contender Belga Cafe and B Too's Bart Vandaele.
The silent auction included an escape to Palm Springs, tickets to The Daily Show and a Dogfish Head Alehouse tour. Here, steering committee members Phase One's Dave Ehrlich and Charles E. Smith's Laurie Ehrlich, with co-chairs Dr. Dennis and Jennifer O'Leary.
Master brewers served limited selection beers, including Heavy Seas' Phantom Ship and Devils Backbone's Double Gooch. Beer Tasting 101 and food pairing tips took the tasting stations to another level. Here, Dirty South Deli's Will Fung, Jacob Hunter, Alex Duritza, and Matchbox Food Group owner Ty Neal.
