Mardi Gras Extravaganza!
We went to the Mardi Gras Extravaganza at Union Market's Dock 5. We partied N'awlins style on Fat Tuesday with lots of beads, feathers and masks at the first-ever event. DC restaurants served Southern-style dishes like Acadiana's deviled eggs with Southern ham salad, The Source's roast beef po' boy with debris gravy, and Woodward Table' grillades and grits. Here, Good Stuff Eatery's Cliff Luhn, Sally Kluthe and co-chair, Bayou Bakery's Davis Guas.
Mixologists from Quill, Jack Rose Dining Saloon, Hank's Oyster Bar, Bar PX and Cafe Saint-Ex created the New Orleans classic hurricane drink, with their own special twist, for a friendly competition. Here, Radiator's Sarah Rosner and Tony Burke flanking Simoneink's Simone Rathle.
We indulged in a slew of desserts, like District Doughnut's mini king cake doughnuts, Puddin's brown butter bourbon bread, and Hill Country's king cake kolaches, and washed it down with a shot of Effen Vodka from an ice luge. Here, USDA's Kim Linonis, Josh O'Rear, Ashley Foy and Alex Moses.
Guests danced to the Brass Collection's New Orleans street jazz music and the Laissez Foure Jazz Quartet's classics from the '30s and '40s. Here, Kapnos' Ethan Cook, Cara Slotkin and Rose Friederichs.
