My Brother's Keeper!
Last night we went to the Newseum for an exclusive screening of Discovery Channel's documentary Rise: The Promise of My Brother's Keeper.
The film explores the lives of boys in four underserved US communities who overcome their fate through programs aligned with President Obama's My Brother's Keeper Initiative. The documentary will premiere on Discovery Channel and OWN on Father's Day. We snapped Discovery Communications' Shawnee Cohn, Liz Hillman, Tammy Shea and Catherine Frymark.
The screening is part of the 2015 AFI Docs Festival in DC through the weekend. Here, AFI's Michael Lumpkin and Nancy Harris, the documentary's director and producer Dawn Porter, and Discovery EVP for Documentaries John Hoffman.
The My Brother's Keeper Initiative and MBK Alliance challenge cities to improve the lives of young men of color throughout the US by providing them with support and encouraging them to think more broadly about their futures. Here, MBK Alliance's Campbell Glenn and Marisa Lee bookend Deloitte's Jessica Lynch and Discovery Communications' Kelly Denson.
The documentary features a recent interview with President Obama and shows leaders of the movement enacting change in their communities. Here, the President's Assistant Broderick Johnson, National Latino Evangelical Coalition president Rev. Dr. Gabriel Salguero, and BCPS Superintendent Dr. S. Dallas Dance.
Sarah Lepley, and Wilma TV's Amy Rankin, Jill Doctor and Athanas Berkeley.
