Oyster Riot!
We went to the 21st Annual Oyster Riot at Old Ebbitt Grill.
The party is always held the weekend before Thanksgiving and attendees consumed tens of thousands of oysters. We snapped Old Ebbitt Grill managing director Dave Moran flanked by Oyster Riot mermaids Nicole Crivellaro and Anna Batyan.
Over 1,000 people drank the gold medal winners of the International Wines for Oysters Competition, started 20 years ago after joining Seattle's Pacific Coast Oyster Wine Competition. There was music by Music Maker Relief Foundation Revue; here, its trombone player “Lil” Joe with Virginia Satterly and Clyde's Restaurant Group president Tom Meyer.
The wines were selected earlier by a panel of judges from 400 wines from all over the world. The Grand Champion: New Zealand's Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc. Here, defense contractor Veronika Buonaugurio, nurse Kristen Weatherly, her husband software developer John Weatherly, and FEMA's Steve Prezzetti.
