Polar Bear Plunge!
Saturday, we went to the Chesapeake Climate Action Network's 12th Annual "Keep Winter Cold" Polar Bear Plunge at National Harbor. CCAN is dedicated to fighting global warming by helping power DC, Maryland and Virginia with clean energy sources. Each year, activists and supporters jump in the frigid Potomac River to raise money and awareness for climate change.
The participants gathered at the National Harbor's waterfront and their family and friends cheered them on for their plunge. The temperature was just above freezing; just like a summer dip for a polar bear in the Arctic. Here, 350 Loudoun's Scott Sandberg, Amanda Tandy, Natalie Pien, Chris Tandy and Kelsey Crane, whose team raised more than $3k.
CCAN raised over $97k at their largest fundraiser of the year, which surpassed their goal by 15%. Here, St. George's Episcopal Church's Gabrielle Moskey, Rebekah Rowe and Mary Rogers.
