Remembering Norman Scribner.

Placeholder

The music world lost a legend with the unexpected death Sunday of Choral Arts Society founder and recently retired artistic director Norman Scribner. We snapped the maestro at a reception celebrating him a couple years ago flanked by pediatrician George Contis and jewelry designer Anna Wetherley. Norman founded the magnificent choral society 50 years ago and built it into a world-renowned choir.

Norman officially passed the baton to his successor Scott Tucker two years ago at a Choral Arts Legacy Celebration Concert at the Washington National Cathedral, and said at the time he couldn’t put into words what it meant to have someone of this stature replace him. When Norman conducted his final concert, he chose his favorite piece, Brahms Requiem; its final line is their works follow after them. Norman's works, and his memory, will live on.
