Sofar at Hillyer!
This week, we headed to Hillyer Art Space in Dupont Circle for a special performance with Sofar Sounds DC!
We snapped Sofar Sounds DC Director Fitz Holladay with Sofar Sounds founder Rafe Offer, who is visiting from London to check in on the North American Sofar Sounds performances.
We talked with Rafe before the show and learned Sofar, or "Sounds From A Room," was created when he was at a gig in London, and when the band started playing, the bar was open, people were texting and talking, and you couldn't hear the band. The first Sofar show was born when he hosted a private performance in his living room. Here, Blue State Digital's Wael Kanj joins Sherbit.io's Sameer Sood, one of the evening's performers, Hunter & Wolfe's Michael Maffei and DHHS's Josh Prasad.
Tuesday's show consisted of three performances in the intimate gallery space. Here, one of the performers, the band Jazze Belle's Henny Montes with Jett Carter, Taylor Simone, Paul Bloom and Jacob Sunshine.
Between sets, guests enjoyed the various exhibitions at Hillyer, and enjoyed cocktails, beer and wine. Here, Sofar guests Chris Kelly with Zarina Zuparkhodjaeva and Liz Rinderle.
Performer eBONE X TAJ's vocalist Tajahniya Sapp and Jovan Johnson liven up the room with their incredible style of beat-boxing and jazz melodies.
