Tomatopalooza!
We headed to LeDroit Park's Common Good City Farm for the first annual Tomatopalooza!
We snapped The Washington Post's food section columnist, Cathy Barrow, aka Mrs. Wheelbarrow, explaining the tomato canning process to the participants.
Washington's Green Grocers owners and founders Zeke and Lisa Zechiel surround Common Good City Farm's program and outreach coordinator, Josephine Chu. Proceeds from the event directly benefited the farm and its programs.
The participants were divided up among the seven different stations during the canning process. Here we observed participants Mary Drak, Sue Starkweather and Nancy Melley at the first station, prepping the tomatoes for boiling.
Participants enjoyed a delicious lunch and got to take home their canned tomatoes. Here, canning enthusiasts Lise Howe, Lise Courtney D'Amico and Abby Roberts.
Participants watch Cathy Barrow as she explains the different canning steps.
