Kimpton To Flag Portman's Buckhead Hotel
Portman Holdings has lured Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants to open its second Atlanta hotel.
The San Francisco boutique hotel operator is expected to run the storied developer's planned hotel in the Buckhead Village area. Portman, known for its iconic hotels including the Hyatt Regency Atlanta and the Westin Peachtree Plaza, purchased a 1950s-era condominium called the Sobu Flats for $28M earlier this year, with plans of converting it into a 216-unit boutique hotel.
Kimpton, owned by Atlanta-based InterContinental Hotels Group, has partnered with Portman on other hotel projects, including in San Diego and Denver. Kimpton's first Atlanta hotel was the Overland Atlanta Airport.
Portman's project will be just across East Paces Ferry Road from a planned $80M boutique hotel being developed by Regent Partners and The Loudermilk Cos. That 200-room hotel will be operated by the Thompson Hotels company.
